Course Overview:

The Advanced Structural Blueprint Reading class is a continuation of the introductory class, taking participants on a focused and in-depth exploration of structural drawings and technical specifications. This course will concentrate on Concrete and Structural Steel Systems as the primary building structures, and will include practical activities such as quantity take-off and measuring for fundamental estimating skills.

• Geotechnical Report Review: Learn how site conditions influence foundation and sub-foundation systems
• Foundation & Sub-foundation Systems: Explore different types and their applications for building structures
• Symbol Identification: Review and understand the basic symbols used in structural drawings
• Schedules & Plans: Dive into Beam Schedules, Column Schedules, and how to correlate them to the structural drawings
• Detailed Blueprint Review: Analyze foundation plans, framing plans, floor plans, and how to identify conflicts across different disciplines
• Steel Shapes & Connections: Understand structural steel shapes and how connections are applied in building structures
• Quantity Take-off & Estimating: Learn basic quantity take-off skills for structural components, including concrete and steel

Ben Bogdanowicz is a Senior Industry Specialist at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, bringing over 29 years of industry experience. As a seasoned Project Manager and instructor, Ben has been teaching at ABC for over 7 years, educating professionals on reading blueprints with hands-on quantity take-off exercises. He is dedicated to closing the skills gap in the construction field and helping professionals succeed in their careers with a deep understanding of construction drawings
