Construction and contracting businesses have been facing workforce issues for some time. When the competition for employees is this intense and the candidate field so uneven, companies need to ensure they are using the best techniques for attracting and hiring new talent.
Speakers will share their first-hand experiences and successes hiring employees and helping to cultivate the craft professional workforce. Meet the Speakers:
Loren Smith, human resources director at ANDRES Construction, joined ANDRES Construction shortly after graduating from Texas Tech University in 2014. Over the last nine years, ANDRES has tripled in size in both employee headcount and project volume. Due to this fast and furious growth, Smith has spent the bulk of her career focusing on recruitment, retention and, above all, being a consistent and trusted resource for all employee-owners.
Carrie Gardenhire, associations manager at Arcoro, has spent over 20 years helping companies develop sustainable strategies, improve efficiencies and reduce costs across many industries, including construction, software, workforce development nonprofits, media publications and educational products. Developing ways to improve both employee success and business outcomes has been paramount throughout Gardenhire’s career as an operations leader, digital marketer and project manager.

Matthew Abeles is vice president of construction technology and innovation for Associated Builders and Contractors. In this role, Abeles spearheads efforts to integrate construction technology and innovation into all aspects of ABC’s strategic initiatives, included but not limited to total human health, world-class safety and workforce development. His team provides ABC members with the annual Tech Report, Tech Marketplace and Tech Alliance.
